MiDA Collaborates with the Department of Land Economy, KNUST, Kumasi

The Millennium Development Authority is collaborating with the Department of Land Economy, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology to issue Land Title Certificates to Project Beneficiaries in the Awutu Senya Pilot Registration District in the Central Region.
Under this arrangement, the University has made available to MiDA fifteen Students to assist with the Conversion of Oral Grants/Transactions into writing, involving the processing of field data for issuing Land Title Certificates. Two Students from the Department of Geography and Rural Development of the University of Ghana, Legon, later joined.
The rationale in engaging the services of the Students was a stop gap measure aimed at quickening the pace of work involved; and to also give the Students some firsthand experience of systematically registering land transactions in a rural setting. This is the first ever land title registration exercise in a rural part of Ghana since the promulgation of the Land Title Registration Law, PNDCL 152 of 1986.
To do this effectively, the Students have been taken through some orientation processes, having been given some basic training on Geographic Information Systems as well.
The Students were accommodated close to the Pilot Registration District and interacted, with the help of local leaders, with Project Beneficiaries through mini-durbars and house-to-house campaigns, using loudhailers to mobilize residents and convincing them to come out to participate. The results have been positive as many more people have been helped in the conversion process, helping to migrate to the Title Registration process itself.
The Students carried out their activities under the guidance and direction of the MiDA Land Team including Dr. Isaac Karikari, the Land Administration Project Manager, Mr. Ahmed Futa, The Zonal Land Administration Officer for the Southern Sector and Mr. Justin Samwine, Zonal Land Administration Officer for the Afram Basin and Coordinator/Facilitator of the Pilot Programs.
