Tamale Consultations Report

MIDA

A third in a series of regional consultations was held at Tamale where the Upper East, Upper West and the Northern regions came together in their turn on July 10. 2012. A total of 99 participants attended this consultative meeting. To grace the occasion were the 3 regional ministers and a high powered delegation of chiefs and traditional rulers from the 3 regions. Participants were made up of representatives from traders, artisans, civil society groups, traditional rulers and the district assemblies

The discussions were preceded by a presentation by the Project Manager, Mr. Albert Sowah. At the end of the plenary session and the syndicate group discussions, the following issues were raised:

  • unreliable power and low voltage,
  • electricity extension should be evenly distributed within the regions to forestall rural-urban migration
  • establish industrial villages for artisans and other small-scale industries that consume a lot of power.
  • Compact 2 must be linked with the work of SADA and
  • wastage associated with power distribution should be eliminated.
