SEVEN MEMBER ECG PSP STAKEHOLDER COMMITTEE INAUGURATED
Accra, May 10, 2017. The Millennium Development Authority, MiDA, has inaugurated a Stakeholders Committee tasked to ensure continuous stakeholder engagement during the implementation of the Compact II Programme.
The Committee will in particular review at the request of the Board specific reports, proposals, agreements, and documents related to the ECG PSP Activity.
The seven member committee, which would deal with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Private Sector Participation (PSP) Activity, has members drawn from Government, Private Sector and Civil Society organisations versed in the PSP discussion.
Members of the Stakeholder Committee include Mrs Majorie Adbin of the Private Enterprise Foundation, Mr Enerst Afriyie Asare (Energy Foundation), Michael Adumatta Nyantakyi (Public Utilities Workers Union -PUWU) and Mr. Ben Boakye Africa Centre for Energy and Policy (ACEP). Others are Mr. Albert Sam (Ghana Journalists Association- GJA), Hon. Samuel Richard Ziggah (National Association of Local Authorities -NALAG) and Mr. Kofi Bentil (Imani Center for Policy & Education).
Professor Yaa Ntiamoa- Baidu, Board Chair of MiDA said “we believe that in order to attain the best outcome for the people of Ghana, it is important to engage all key stakeholders in the ECG PSP process. We also believe that in order for the ECG PSP Activity to be successful, the people of Ghana must own the process and be actively involved in it. It is for this reason that the Board of Directors of the Millennium Development Authority resolved to establish a Stakeholder Committee for the ECG PSP Activity.” She then charged the Committee to work diligently and always seek the best interest of the people of Ghana.
The Minister for Energy reiterated government’s commitment to ensuring that the country’s power sector is positioned to meet the growing needs of industry, businesses and households. “The reforms being implemented under the Compact II Programme, together with infrastructural investments hold the key to arresting permanently our country’s perennial power problems”.
