Accra, Ghana – May 29, 2026 – The Chief Executive Officer of the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA), Mr. Alex Mould, participated as a guest speaker at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) School of Graduate Studies Practitioners’ Forum 2026, held under the theme “Supply Chain Management in Practice: From the Perspective of Industry.”
Drawing from his extensive experience in Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector and strategic infrastructure development, Mr. Mould delivered a presentation titled “Fuel, Risk and Resilience: Managing Downstream Petroleum Supply Chains Under National Pressure.”
In his presentation, Mr. Mould highlighted the vital role of fuel supply in sustaining national stability and economic activity. He noted that transportation, industry, food distribution, and essential public services all depend on the uninterrupted availability of petroleum products. He explained that Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector operates through a complex network of imports, storage facilities, logistics systems, financing arrangements, and regulatory frameworks that collectively ensure fuel security.
Mr. Mould also examined some of the key challenges confronting the sector, including import dependency, infrastructure constraints, logistics disruptions, fuel price volatility, and geopolitical risks. He cited global developments such as tensions around the Strait of Hormuz as examples of external factors that can significantly impact supply chains and fuel availability.
Emphasizing the importance of resilience, he outlined critical supply chain management strategies such as strategic sourcing, inventory optimization, risk mitigation, and data-driven decision-making. According to Mr. Mould, these approaches are essential for strengthening supply chain performance and ensuring the reliable delivery of fuel under varying economic and operational conditions.
The presentation underscored the importance of resilient supply chains in supporting national economic stability and growth. It also highlighted the need for long-term strategic planning to facilitate the transition towards cleaner and more sustainable energy systems.
Mr. Mould’s participation in the forum reflects MiDA’s commitment to knowledge sharing, capacity building, and promoting discussions that support sustainable economic development and infrastructure transformation in Ghana.
